Fortification

There are a few Chinese medical adages that go something like this…you don’t dig a well when you are thirsty, nor do you forge a sword while marching into battle.

Over the last 2000 years there have been 320 large scale epidemics in China. Because of this, a great deal of knowledge and wisdom has been gained with respect to halting transmission and protecting life.

Clearly the Chinese as a culture with their own medical philosophy have learned over time the art of preparing. Plagues and epidemics require a shifting out of the normal into a different mode of awareness and preparedness.

My personal respect for Chinese medicine runs deep. Being a part of my practice, you have likely come to appreciate it too for its many gifts. Now, we are in a different set of circumstances where the opportunity is to share a different aspect of the medicine.

When the SARS epidemic broke out in 2002, it was not modern medicine which was known to have controlled the spread of that corona virus, but a return to a historic herbal approach known as Wen Bing.

In China, in early February 2020, large scale herbals were given in Wu Han. Their numbers of new symptomatic cases and deaths have now declined. Just as in 2002 with the SARS epidemic, they returned to the Wen Bing tradition of prevention and ceasing progression.

From my perspective, there is no reason to reinvent this wheel. I have begun my own raw formula for prevention based on this model.

Many of you know the benefits of herbs. There are raw herbal decoctions, tinctures and patent (honey pill) formulas.

Without experience, many people are fearful of Chinese herbs. It is a reasonable response to what is foreign. Despite this, Hidden Well will offer you every option in this tradition going forward. Stay tuned here for the next steps in our process of preparing and fortifying.

In the meantime, continue to practice good epidemic form of social distancing or self isolating. If you do need to be out and about before you have your fortification formulas, face masks are a good practice. Extras will be hanging in a bag on the rear door of the clinic starting on Wednesday if you need one.

Thank you for your continued trust.
